Fr. Pilsner Heads to Rome
5/7/2010
Dean of Arts and Sciences Fr. Joseph Pilsner, CSB, will help lead a seminar for German youth called Libertas et conscientia (Freedom and Conscience), which will take place from May 30 – June 5 just outside of Rome.
“The seminar is aimed at young students (age 16-22), who have already demonstrated leadership skills, talents and enthusiasm in a range of organisations, such as youth branches of political parties, social outreach programs and church groups,” noted Susanne Hester, organizer of the seminar.
From more than 1,000 applications, 20 young people are selected for the seminar. Past participants have included winners of national debate, national music and science research competitions.
Participants will study the text of Thomas Aquinas’ Summa Theologiae, I-II, q. 18-19. The seminar is sponsored by the Foundation for Political and Christian Youth Education and the Papal Committee for Historical Studies.
“After I’m finished with the seminar,” Fr. Pilsner said, “I will be traveling to Assisi to meet up with the students and professors participating in the Catholic Studies Italy Study Abroad Program. We will celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi together in Assisi. I’m looking forward to spending some time with them in Italy.”
