Newman, a former Anglican priest and theologian who converted to Catholicism in 1845, is said to be the first Englishman who lived after the 17th century to be beatified. Newman is frequently cited for helping Protestant Christians journey toward full communion in the Catholic Church.
Newman’s own road was exceptionally challenging, and his way of thinking remains a challenge for many in the Catholic Church. It is highly significant that the Holy Father himself will preside.

Fr. Steenson spent 24 years as an Episcopal clergyman and three years as Bishop for the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande before resigning to join the Roman Catholic Church. Fr. Steenson is also a former Anglican priest. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 2009 and joined the UST Center for Faith and Culture in August 2009. Educated at Harvard Divinity School and Oxford, Fr. Steenson is an expert in patristics.
