Lady Celts Volleyball Team Improves to 8-1

The University of St. Thomas Lady Celts Volleyball team improves to 8-1 after two weeks of play. On Thursday, Sept. 2, the Lady Celts hit the road to East Texas Baptist where they had a strong showing from Lauren Poe and Casey Mulryan to up the record to 4-0 with a 3 sets to 1 win.
On Friday, Sept. 3, the Lady Celts hit the floor back in Houston in the Texas Southern Tournament for two matches against Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas Pine Bluff. In the first match of the day against Mississippi Valley State, Kinzie Van Voorst led the Lady Celts with a strong hitting performance in a 3-1 victory with 16 Kills. She also posted a team high 25 digs. In match two, Arkansas Pine Bluff went down 3-0 to the Lady Celts. Kinzie Van Voorst and Casey Mulryan passed the attack with 11 Kills & 8 Kills respectively.
In the tournament finale on Saturday, Sept. 4, the Lady Celts took on host Texas Southern. With a 3-1 win, the Lady Celts posted a perfect 3-0 record at the tournament and claimed the tournament championship. Casey Mulryan was named the Tournament MVP as well as to the All-Tournament Team. Kinzie Van Voorst was also named to the All-Tournament Team and Brittany Downs was named the Libero of the Tournament.
Returning home for their home opener on Saturday afternoon, the Lady Celts tried to find their legs after 4 matches in three days. Texas Wesleyan proved too much for the Lady Celts posting a 3-0 victory. Kinzie Van Voorst, Lauren Poe and Casey Mulryan passed a balance attack.
