In its first year to compete at the HOSA National Leadership Conference, the UST chapter of Health Occupation Students of America outperformed all other Texas collegiate HOSA chapters, bringing home the greatest number of medals in the state.
A group of 13 UST HOSA members traveled to Orlando, Fla. on June 21 to compete at the HOSA National Leadership Conference. Throughout the week, members competed in various healthcare-related events against other HOSA collegiate chapters across the nation.
The results were:
• Linda Mai and Quyen Nguyen - Forensic Medicine - 1st place
• Nancy Mai - Medical Photography - 1st place
• Madalena Truong - Dental Spelling - 1st place
• Janice Nguyen - Dental Terminology - 3rd place
• Michael Pham - Human Growth and Development - 3rd place
• Raisa Nguyen - Medical Spelling - 4th place
• Andy Nguyen - Medical Math - 6th place
• Neil Gala - Pathophysiology - 8th place
• Rabeea Lodhra, Thuy-Linh Nguyen, Saba Ghaziyani, and Tam Nguyen - HOSA BOWL - 10th place
While the members were not competing, they were able to enjoy the numerous attractions of Orlando, including visiting Disneyworld and Universal Studios.
This fall, UST HOSA hopes to not only to have another successful run at competition, but to also help more students learn and reach their goal of becoming compassionate health care professionals.
