Men's Soccer Team Defeats Huston Tilloston
9/22/2010
The UST Celts Men’s Soccer team was back on the road again for two matches on Sept. 17 and 18 to play in Austin against Huston Tilloston University (HTU), and then to San Antonio, TX to face Our Lady of the Lake University(OLLU).
On Friday, Sept. 17, the Celts battled to 1-0 victory over the Rams of HTU. UST looked determined to get a good result on Friday night. The Celts outshot their opponent 17-4 on the night. Although UST struggled a little to find the back of the net, Senior Midfielder, Efrain Orozco, scored his fourth goal of the season in the 73rd minute to give the Celts the win. Celt Goal Keeper, Lukas Simon, had a quite night with only 4 saves.
With less than a day’s rest, UST was back on the field Saturday to play the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University. UST was down 0-2 at halftime. The second half was more of the same for the weary Celts. UST did create more chances in the second half, but still found themselves down 0-4 during the second half. Jad El-Masri continued to work and found the goal late in the second half to finish the match 1-4 for the Saints.
“It was another tough weekend against some very strong competition. We played hard and owned our individual battles on Friday night which is why we won the match,” Coach Aaron Champenoy said. “Unfortunately we couldn’t replicate that effort on Saturday. We have a very talented group of student athletes, but are still lacking that "edge". Some games are just about who wants it most and who will make sacrifices to achieve it.”
