Phillip Butcher Named Director of Veterans Services

 The University of St. Thomas has named Phillip Butcher as new Director of Veteran Services. Butcher is a veteran who spent 4 ½ years as an aircrew member in the U.S. Air Force flying combat missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Butcher received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in marketing from the University of Houston in 2009. He comes to St. Thomas from the engineering firm Smith Seckman Reid, where he worked in the Marketing Department. Butcher is also active in the Lone Star Veterans Association, where he serves as Communications Committee Chair and he developed and implemented the marketing and communications strategy for a large grass-roots membership organization and created the organization’s website, e-newsletter, and
social media outlets .
“I remember all of the confusion I had when I separated from the military and began attending school, the head in the clouds feeling of not always knowing what to do next or where to go,” Butcher said. “ I want to make sure that other veterans have more information so that they can take full advantage of their benefits,” Butcher said.
At St. Thomas, Butcher is responsible for enhancing the St. Thomas student-veteran experience and increasing the student enrollment of veterans and their family members.
