Professor Speaks on International Humanitarian Issues

Dr. Betcy Jose-Thota, visiting assistant professor at in the University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies, recently travelled to Washington D.C. to discuss policy implications of ambiguity in international humanitarian law on Oct. 12. She was invited by the Office for the Coordinator for Reconstruction and Stabilization at the U. S. Department of State.

More recently, she participated in a panel discussion hosted by the Houston Journal of International Law at the University of Houston Law School to discuss the Rwandan genocide and its aftermath on Oct. 28. She was joined by Professor Ved Nanda, a world renowned specialist in international law from the University of Denver. The event included a viewing of a new HBO film, “Earth Made of Glass.”

Jose-Thota received undergraduate degrees in history and psychology from the University of Texas at Austin, completed graduate studies in political science at the University of Texas at Arlington, earned a Juris Doctorate from the University of Houston Law Center, and a doctorate in philosophy from the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Pittsburgh. Her research interests include international humanitarian law and human security.
