Mosaics of Faith Conference Examines Turkish Experience

 The University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies will host Mosaics of Faith: The Turkish Experience, a two-day event that explores the rich culture of Turkey. The conference will be held all day Tuesday-Wednesday, March 1-2 on the UST campus.
Mosaics of Faith is an annual conference geared towards stimulating active interest in the vast universe of social, anthropological and political manifestations resulting from the intertwined relationship between culture and faith. The conference is meant to explore connections and divisions between the U.S. and other parts of the world by considering the spiritual journey of different cultures and their long-lasting struggles to live according to their faith and conscience.
Conference Schedule:
Tuesday, March 1
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
An ongoing presentation of “Exploring Turkey,” a video showcasing the natural and historical sites of Turkey. The movie will be held in Scanlan Room, Jerabeck Center.
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.
The Institute for Interfaith Dialog will have a tables near Welder Hall and Crooker Center to sell baklava, Turkish coffee, art crafts. A calligrapher will also be on hand to write the names of students, faculty and staff.
7 - 8:30 p.m.
“Seven Churches of the Book of Revelation and Religious Sites in Turkey,” a lecture by Sait Yavuz, Ph.D. Candidate in history at the University of Maryland. The lecture will be held in Scanlan Room.
Wednesday, March 2
11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

“Turkey's Journey Toward Democratization,” a lecture by Dr. Yuksel A. Aslandogan, president of The Institute of Interfaith Dialog. The lecture will be held in Scanlan Room, Jerabeck Center.
