Dr. Mauro Ferari Speaks about Biomedical Nanotechnology
3/16/2011
Photo: FerrariThe Crossroads Cultural Center-Houston and the University of St. Thomas will present “Science as an Adventure: A Conversation with Dr. Mauro Ferrari,” at 6:30 p.m., April 5 at the University of St. Thomas, Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum. Ferrari is president and CEO and Ernest Cockrell Jr. Distinguished Endowed Chair of the Methodist Hospital Research Institute.

The story of Dr. Mauro Ferrari shows that there is nothing mechanical or automatic about the birth of a new field in science and technology. The development of ideas; the sacrifice of hard work; the willingness to take risks; the creation of a community of researchers that share the same vision: all of these steps have a deep human dimension and require a certain type of person and a certain culture that cannot be taken for granted. This is particularly true when the motivation for research is to help others, as is the case with Dr. Ferrari and biomedical nanotechnology, one of the most fascinating disciplines in contemporary science.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information call 713-823-2263 or e-mail houston@crossroadsculturalcenter.org.
