UST Hosts The Earth: A Human Habitat Lecture
4/8/2011
In observance of Earth Day, the University of St. Thomas Department of Environmental Science and Studies and the Crossroads Cultural Center-Houston will present “Earth: A Human Habitat,” at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 27, on the UST campus, Cullen Hall, 4001 Mt. Vernon.

Wonder is the most human response to the beauty of reality and has always led human beings to raise questions: Why is the sky so impressive this evening? And why these colors? The very fact that we exist is a great source of wonder. For it is, by no means, obvious that there should be human beings within the universe. This event addresses the kinds of questions that arise when we consider the earth as a human habitat.

The lecture will feature a series of speakers from different scientific disciplines, including forestry, astronomy, and biology.

Speakers Include:
Massimo Robberto, Ph.D.
Scientist, Space Science Telescope Institute, Baltimore

Massimo Bionez, Ph.D.
Institute of Genomic Biology, University of Illinois

Pablo Martinez de Anguita, Ph.D.
Prof. of Rural Development, Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, Madrid

A poster exhibit will be displayed from April 25-29 at University of St. Thomas Doherty Library, 1100 W. Main.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Sister Damien Marie Savino, FSE at 713-525-3894.
