Faculty Earn Awards for Teaching, Service, Research

The University of St. Thomas Faculty Senate Awards Committee recognized three UST faculty members with the 2010-2011 awards for excellence in teaching, research and service at Faculty Study Day on August 15.

Dr. Clinton Brand, associate professor of English, received the Saint Thomas Aquinas Excellence in Teaching award. Brand joined the UST faculty in 2001, and has taught courses on Shakespeare, Dante, the Middle Ages and Renaissance. He has also taught courses in the Master in Liberal Arts Program, the Mendenhall Summer Institute, the Honors Program and Catholic Studies Program.

Father Charles Talar, professor of systematic theology in the School of Theology located at St. Mary’s Seminary, is the recipient of the Saint Edith Stein Excellence in Research Award. Fr. Talar has been on the St. Mary’s faculty since 2002. He has recently published articles in journals such as the Theological Studies, and the New Catholic Encyclopedia and was recently invited to produce a volume in Classics of Western Spirituality. Other Recent works include editing Mystics and Modernists and co-authoring with Harvey Hill and Louis-Pierre, By Those Who Knew Them: Modernists in France, Left, Right and Center, translations and an introduction to Alfred Firmin Loisy and the Prelude to the Modernist Crisis: Five “Firmin” Articles and a Critic’s Response.
 
Dr. Beena George, associate professor of management and marketing, received the Joseph M. McFadden Excellence in Service Award. As Cameron School of Business’ resident expert on outsourcing, George continues to be active in her of field of research and provides opportunities for students to gain meaningful, hands-on insight into the global outsourcing industry by leading study abroad trips to India. George was instrumental in developing the plan for Cameron School to acquire AACSB accreditation and adapted and provided training for software for faculty to input their scholarship records. She has served on the Faculty Senate as well as many committees. She also served as the faculty advisor for Delta Mu Delta business honor society and a First Year Experience Advisor.
