Marquis Gatewood Joins Residence Life Staff as Assistant Director

 Marquis Gatewood has been named as the Assistant Director of Residence Life. Gatewood comes to St. Thomas after serving as Hall Director at Stephen F. Austin State University for two years, as admissions representative at Westwood College and as assistant director of residence at Houston Baptist University.
Gatewood is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Texas Southern University and earned a bachelor’s degree in communication at Stephen F. Austin in 2006.
Gatewood said he knew he wanted to work at St. Thomas after meeting one of our student leaders, Misbah Khatri, while he was working at HBU.
“I am overjoyed to have the opportunity to serve the St. Thomas student body of UST,” Gatewood said. “I had the amazing opportunity to meet a UST student named Misbah Khatri, who was helping her brother check in at Freshman Orientation at HBU. That interaction allowed me to see the unique and passionate student leaders we have at St. Thomas. That was the day I wanted to work at UST. I am thankful to be a part of this community and look to making Residence Life a home for our residents.
“One of my goals is to help create more partnerships across campus with faculty and other departments,” Gatewood said. “Students are enriched when we can get the whole campus involved with Residence Life.”
Gatewood is married to Udoro Gatewood and has three daughters, Milan, 4, Mali, 2 and Macae, 5 months.
