Lady Celts Earn First Win Of 2012

Madeline AliThe University of St. Thomas women's basketball team beat the University of the Southwest on Thursday night 88-81.

Madeline Ali led the team in scoring with 14 points and was among six Lady Celts in double figures. Gaby Guzman added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

"It wasn't pretty," said head coach Mike Ricks. "We made a lot of mistakes but a win is a win and it sure feels good to get one. It's been a while."

The win brings the Celts' record to 4-9 in conference play and 6-12 overall. The Celts don't have too long to savor the victory as they travel to Austin to play Huston-Tillotson University on Saturday afternoon.

"We will keep getting after it,” Ricks said. "Hopefully the win will give us a little momentum as we prepare for Saturday.”
