Lowery Chosen as Featured Poet for Poetry Reading

Dr. Janet Lowery, University of St. Thomas professor and Cullen Chair of English and Creative Writing, has been chosen as a featured poet at the Houston Public Library’s Spring Public Poetry reading. Dr. Janet Lowery, University of St. Thomas professor and Cullen Chair of English and Creative Writing, has been chosen as a featured poet at the Houston Public Library’s Spring Public Poetry reading.  The event will take place at 2 p.m. on April 7 at the Julia Ideson Building, across from the Central Branch Library, 500 McKinney, 77002. 

Lowery’s poetry has appeared in Poetry East, Greensboro Review, Concho River Review, and in anthologies such as Improbable Worlds, Texas Poetry 2 and Who Are the Rich and Where Do They Live? Her poetry collection based on women from Greek mythology, Traffic in Women, was published in 2008.  Her trilogy of plays by the same name was produced from 2006-2008 on the UST campus. 

Lowery earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the State University College at Brockfort and her doctorate in English Literature and Creative Writing from Binghamton University.  She joined the UST faculty in 1990 and teaches creative writing, classical literature in translation and Irish literature.
