Sr. Faubert Attends ICUSTA
Sister Marie Faubert, C.S.J., director of the Counselor Education Program and professor of education at the University of St. Thomas, attended the 2012 Sister Universities Conference at the Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages in Kaohsiung, Taiwan from Sept. 30 – Oct. 7. The conference was part of the International Council of Universities of St. Thomas Aquinas program, and Sister Faubert was one of six professors from around the world who attended. The other participants were from Japan, Germany, Spain and Mainland China.
Sister Faubert dialogued with professors and students in the Department of Education at Wenzao on the topic of Catholic education. Also, Sister Faubert engaged counselors from college counseling centers all over Taiwan on the subject of ethical practice with international students.
“I enjoyed working with aspiring elementary school teachers and the counselors from the surrounding colleges,” Sister Faubert said. “The exchange with the faculty of the Department of Education was most rewarding.”
Professors encountered language barriers during the week-long conference when they engaged in teaching activities with students.
“My belief that learning can take place in the face of language barriers was strengthened,” Sister Faubert said. “Wenzao Ursuline College of Languages is way ahead of the times. I have experienced the future of effective education here.”
