
Double-doubles prevail as the University of St. Thomas
volleyball team won both their quarterfinal and semifinal matches in the
Red River Athletic Conference Tournament on Nov. 9 in Fort Worth, Texas. No. 3 seed UST will play for the RRAC Championship title.
In the quarterfinals, UST beat No. 6 seed Southwest Assemblies of God 3-1. The game had close sets of 25-21, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-13.
In the semifinals, UST was matched up against No. 2 seed Wiley College and won 3-1 with sets of 25-22, 17-25, 25-21 and 25-12.
Three Celts snatched double-doubles.
Stephanie Biediger led with 21 kills and 10 digs.
Kirsten Kubicek had 17 kills and 24 digs. Senior
Brittany Weiler dished out 44 assists and 18 digs.
Junior
Shirley Paul led the defense with 40 digs, and
Monica Litle added eight.
The UST volleyball team will battle No. 1 seed and defending champion University of Texas-Brownsville for the RRAC Championship. In the previous match on Nov. 2, UT-Brownsville got the best of the Celts in three sets defeating the team 25-12, 25-19 and 25-15. The two face off at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 10.
