Education Dean Receives Women on the Move Award

 Ruth Strudler, dean of the School of Education at UST, has been honored for her professional work and community service as a recipient of the 2007 Women on the Move Award.
Serving as dean for nearly a decade, Strudler is committed to shaping the educators of tomorrow, particularly those interested in working with special needs children.
Strudler’s passion for helping others extends beyond her professional work. In 1984, she and her late husband Robert founded the School for Young Children, a school for children with learning and language disabilities. Strudler, along with the foundation that operates the school, recently built the Robert J. Strudler Diagnostic and Remediation Center, which provides diagnostic and remediation services to the community. UST’s School of Education has partnered with both organizations in an effort to train future educators.
Strudler is also active in the Special Olympics, working together with Lennar Corporation to provide occupational and life skills to participating young adults.
Strudler has received recognition in the Houston Jewish Community for her professional work and service to the community. She currently serves on a committee for Jewish Family Services that provides support for Jewish young adults dealing with mental challenges and sits on the board of directors for the Neuhaus Education Center, which trains educators to work with children and adults with dyslexia.
