St. Thomas Rocked the Vote
3/3/2008
Text messages were sent out on Wednesday, Feb. 27 to remind students to exercise their right to vote in the presidential elections. Students gathered at the University Seal to sign up for free message reminders at the AT&T sponsored Rock the Vote booth. The Rock the Vote campaign is dedicated to promoting dialogue among college students and their peers on the topic of voting.
“This event was all about getting students to listen on a personal level to their peers as they discuss the importance of voting in the elections,” said Student Governement Association President Josh Gautreau. “The focus was to inform our peers of their right of vote and to exercise that right by voting in the primaries.”
This year Rock the Vote launched a mobile outreach program campaign in a joint effort with AT&T, which involved a moblization of peers to vote through text messaging. AT&T also signed students up to receive mobile alerts on their cell phones all the way up to the general election in November.
