UST Faculty, Administrators Participate in Conference on Being Catholic in America
4/18/2008 UST Assistant Professor of Philosophy Fr. Anthony Giampietro, CSB, Dean of Arts and Sciences Dr. Dominic Aquila and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. John Hittinger presented lectures at a conference titled “Being Catholic in America,” on April 12 for St. Michael Catholic Church’s Adult Faith Formation program.
The conference was held in an effort to explore the role and responsibility of Catholics in the American political system. Participants examined the philosophical and theological presuppositions of America’s political system and then engaged in discussions about the call of the Catholic believer in a secular culture. Fr. Giampietro delivered the keynote address, titled: “Building a Culture of Life in America: The Vision of John Paul II and Benedict XVI.” Dr. Aquila presented a speech titled “Modern and Classical Understandings of Person and Society” and Dr. Hittinger spoke on “Political Liberalism: Promise and Challenge.”
