UST to Host Lone Star Veterans Association Kickoff Event

 The Lone Star Veterans Association will hold its kickoff event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 20 on the University of St. Thomas Campus Life Mall, 3800 Montrose Blvd.
This event serves to introduce Post 9/11 veterans, in and around the city of Houston, to the Lone Star Veterans Association. It is also a means of social networking for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The newly formed veterans association is a subcommittee of the Houston Military Affairs committee. It is established as a network of community leaders, veterans’ organizations and government agencies to aid veterans and their families in their transition from military to civilian life.
Event festivities include a barbeque dinner, Ultimate Frisbee, horseshoes, a bouncer for children and fun children games. Various agencies and organizations will be on hand to answer questions about opportunities for veterans including higher education benefit updates to the new Post 9/11 GI Bill.
The event is free and open to veterans in and around the Houston area. RSVP by Friday, June 12, to www.stthom.edu/veteranevents. Parking is available in Moran Center for $2, West Alabama at Graustark.
