Dr. Ivany Presides Over Air Force ROTC Commission

 University of St. Thomas President Dr. Robert Ivany presided over the Air Force ROTC commission of eight cadets as second lieutenants in the United States Air Force on Saturday, May 16, at the University of Houston. Ivany talked about leadership and America’s military future.
After 34 years of service in the United States Army, Ivany began his presidency at UST in 2004. He retired with the rank of major general.
Before St. Thomas, Ivany headed the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa., one of the nation’s most respected institutions for strategic leaders. During his three years of leadership, he introduced programs to expand the next generation of military and civilian leaders in the United States and other countries to meet the challenges of the changing national security environment.
He also served as an armored cavalry officer in the United States, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Federal Republic of Germany and Vietnam, where he was wounded in action and decorated with valor.
University of St. Thomas’ Army and Air Force ROTC programs partner with the University of Houston. Since its introduction in 2003, Air Force ROTC has been offered to students at 17 local colleges and universities. Based at the University of Houston, the program extends to University of St. Thomas, Rice University, Texas Southern University, University of Houston-Downtown, Houston Community College, Houston Baptist University, South Texas College of Law, San Jacinto College, Alvin Community College and College of the Mainland. Air Force ROTC is a growing program and is part of the Houston Corps of Cadets.
