Chapel Book Gives Insight into UST Landmark
7/29/2009
A hardcover book featuring the Chapel of St. Basil has been published by the University. The 112-page book presents a four-color, pictorial of the Chapel of St. Basil, one of the most prominent buildings on campus.
Elements of the Chapel buildings designed by world renowned architect, Philip Johnson, are captured by breathtaking photography that guides us on the journey from concept to completion. The book features largely the images of local photographer John T. Ford. Rev. Janusz Ihnatowicz and the late Rev. William J. Young, CSB, are included among the editorial contributors.
The Chapel is dedicated to St. Basil the Great, a 4th century Bishop and a patron of Christian educators. Within the Chapel’s unique architecture, light and shadow interplay to recreate the dramatic emotional power of historic European churches. Its elegant design embodies the most contemporary architectural concepts which reinforce the University’s ongoing mission with its students.
The Chapel of St. Basil book is available for $70 in the University Bookstore, located on the ground floor at the Moran Parking Garage, 3807 Graustark. For more information, call 713-525-3806 or bookstore@stthom.edu.
