Opera Workshop is Evening of Musical Fun
Join University of St. Thomas music students as they perform scenes from popular operas and musicals during “Scenes from Opera and Musical Theater.” The Music Department will present the workshop at 7:30 p.m. from Oct. 25-26 and at 3 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Cullen Hall.
The performances will include scenes from “Westside Story,” “My Fair Lady,” “Robert and Elizabeth,” “The Ballad of Baby Doe,” “A Little Night Music,” “Giulio Cesare,” “Hansel and Gretel” and “Die Freischutz.”
“The scenes are very interesting and varied, and it has been a pleasure to work with this talented and high-energy cast,” Dr. Brady Knapp said. “I have had the pleasure of working with each one of these singers one-on-one in the voice studio, and they are all very gifted.”
The performance will be directed by Knapp, head of choral and vocal studies at UST, with stage director Professor Debra Dickinson, a Broadway veteran and full-time faculty member of the Shepherd School at Rice University, and Professor Jasmine Hatem, piano instructor, as the accompanist.
“This fall show really highlights the talent we have in the vocal program at UST and I hope everyone will come out to support the students,” Knapp said.
The show is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Ann Harlan at 713-525-3560 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
