University Sponsors George Weigel Lecture

Renowned Catholic writer and papal biographer George Weigel will deliver a public lecture on Feb. 12 at St. Thomas High School discussing the legacies of Pope Benedict XVI and Blessed John Paul II. The address, titled “Two Popes, One Mission” is sponsored by the John Paul II Forum and the Center for Thomistic Studies at UST.

 

Celts Gear Up For 2012 Homecoming

The University of St. Thomas will celebrate its 2012 Homecoming Feb. 17-18 with a busy weekend of games, fun and alumni activities. Celtic Warrior Weekend will include an alumni and faculty reception at the historic Link-Lee Mansion on Friday, Feb. 17 and a family-friendly tailgate on Saturday. UST Professor Named To Pontifical Academy

University of St. Thomas philosophy professor Dr. John Hittinger was appointed recently to the Vatican-based Pontifical Academy of St. Thomas Aquinas. Hittinger’s expertise in both Thomistic philosophy and the thought of John Paul II make him a notable addition to the Academy.

 

UST Mardi Gras Gala Honors Archbishop Miller, CSB

Canadian Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, former president of the University of St. Thomas, will celebrate Fat Tuesday in the Bayou City as the guest of honor for UST’s 62nd Annual Mardi Gras Gala on Feb. 21. Tables and individual tickets are on sale.

 

Business School Striving For Diversity

When Cathy Hardnett became the newest addition to the University of St. Thomas’ business faculty she achieved something of an institutional milestone as the first African-American full-time faculty member at UST’s Cameron School of Business. UST has made it a priority to recruit professors who better reflect the ethnic and gender diversity of Houston.

Honors Student Helps Peru Orphans

Brittany Garza, a junior UST student, recently traveled to small towns or pueblos of Peru for a medical mission project as part of her Honors Program service project. Now, she’s raising money and medical supplies to help an orphanage there.
