Roots of Christian Mysticism

Explore the modern history of Christian mysticism with the Roots of Christian Mysticism Series on Saturday mornings Oct. 6 - May10. Presented by theologians and scholars, including professors from the University of St. Thomas and St. Mary’s Seminary, the series will cover a wide variety of topics from 17th Century mystics (St. Francis de Sales, St. Jeanne de Chantal, etc.) to modern contemplatives such as Thomas Merton.
Fr. Charles J.T. Talar, STD, professor of systematic theology, and Dr. Brooke Deely, adjunct professor for the Honors Program, will lecture on the French Mystics of the 17th Century and French philosopher Jacques Maritain, respectively.
The series in an ongoing initiative of The World Community for Christian Meditation, whose director is Father Laurence Freeman, OSB. Meditation will be an integral part of the series, with each lecture preceded by a silent meditation. Previous meditation experience is not necessary.
The lectures will be held at the Dominican Sisters Meeting Room, 6501 Almeda Road. Scholarships are available on an as-needed basis. No prior preparation is required.
