UST Micro-Credit Program Presents "Dum Spiro"
Thursday, October 11, 2007 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM
The UST Micro-Credit Program is a student-run program at the Center for International Studies. Money raised by the event will be used to offer microloans to small entrepreneurs in developing countries. “Dum Spiro” is a Latin term meaning “While I breathe” which will take place at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 11 in the Old Bookstore.
The concept is that these loans will help the world’s working poor make strides towards economic independence. Student committee members are responsible for setting up the account, raising funds and managing the finances.
Jonathan Moller, fine arts/documentary photographer and human rights activist, as well as St. Anne’s School, have donated art work to be auctioned at the event. Dr. Robert Ivany, UST President, Dr. Gustavo Wensjoe, CIS Director, and Dr. Rogelio Garcia-Contreras, Microcredit Advisor, will give comments.
Live music and refreshments will be served. More information on micro-credit will be avaliable at the event.
