The Risk of Education
Wednesday, March 20, 2013 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM
Join us for a discussion of education with Keith Kiser, Headmaster of St. Joseph Catholic High School, Holly Peterson, Religious Education Instructor at Christian Brothers High School, Sacramento, CA and Adjunct Professor at the University of San Francisco and Dr. Dominic A. Aquila, Vice President for Academic Affairs at the University of St. Thomas.

What does it mean to educate and what does it mean to be educated? Does attending top-notch schools, achieving outstanding test scores, participating in extra-curricular activities, and all that we commonly associate with a good education guarantee that one is educated?

Every educational endeavor has its foundation in the proposal it offers young people for the reason for their existence. It seems that almost universally we now assert the achievement of success as the most trusted hypothesis for the reason to live. However, this hypothesis is terribly insufficient for equipping young people adequately for life.

During this event we will discuss the fundamental factors of the phenomenon of education as Luigi Giussani points out in his book, The Risk of Education.
