I am the ninth of eleven children and my late father was a professor of sculpture and ceramics at The Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. I have served on the board of directors of the University of Saint Thomas for the past five years, and from 2006 to 2008 I chaired the strategic planning committee of the board. I played college basketball at The University of Rochester and at Wesleyan University. I also ran track at Rochester. Before going into the priesthood, I spent two years in banking, becoming an officer of the bank just prior to returning to school.
I love teaching philosophy because it provides a common ground for dealing with a great variety of important questions. The University of Saint Thomas includes persons of many different faiths. The philosophy department is a place in which students can come together to discuss matters at a deeper level, regardless of their religious background. |
