The scholarship committee has announced the availability of Study Abroad Scholarships. There will be a number of undergraduate and graduate $500.00 scholarships. Click Here to access the Scholarship application and recommendation forms.  The application and all accompanying paperwork must be turned in to Diana Garcia in Tiller Hall by November 1 for Winter program  and March 1 for Summer programs..

• Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship
  Interested applicants must apply for Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships through their local Rotary club. Because timelines vary, only your local club can provide specific information about application deadlines, which are generally March 1 or August 15 of the year prior to the study abroad. Remember that availability varies by Rotary district. If your local district is not offering scholarships at this time, try inquiring next year. • Fulbright Program
  The largest U.S. international exchange program offering students and professionals to undertake international graduate study, advanced research, university teaching, and teaching in elementary and secondary schools worldwide. • NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships
  The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the opening of the 2010-11 academic year competition for NSEP David L. Boren Scholarships and Fellowships. Boren Awards provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to become more proficient in the cultures and languages of world regions critical to the future security of our nation, such as in Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.
  
  Boren Scholarships, for undergraduate students, provide up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad.
  
  Boren Fellowships, for graduate students, provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research.

• Council of International Education  (CIEE)
  Scholarships to study abroad...anywhere. Visit CIEE Scholarship Website  for application instructions or  more information click here. 
  CIEE Robert B. Bailey Scholarship : To promote under-represented groups in study abroad especially ethnic minorities. $500 award. Deadlines: April 1 for summer, fall, and academic year programs (beginning from June 1 to December 31);
  November 1 for spring programs (beginning from January 1 to May 31) (Available only if participating in Council Study Center programs) 
  CIEE John E. Bowman Travel Grants: The Bowman Travel Grants were established in memory of John E. Bowman, Executive Director of CIEE from 1952 to 1979. These awards provide assistance to students participating in CIEE study abroad programs in non-traditional locations. They help to defray the costs of travel.
  CIEE U.S. Department of Education Fulbright-Hays Project Abroad Scholarship for Programs in China: The U.S. Department of Education has awarded CIEE funding under the Fulbright-Hays Group Projects Abroad Program to provide financial assistance to students who are participating in the Chinese language programs offered by the CIEE Study Centers at Peking University (Beijing), East China Normal University (Shanghai), Nanjing University, and National Chengchi University (Taipei). 
  
• Bridging Scholarships for Study in Japan
  The Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Project offers 100 scholarships annually to American undergraduate students participating in study abroad programs in Japan. Awards are intended to assist students with the travel and living expenses for students majoring in any field. Japanese language study is not a prerequisite. Recipients receive a stipend of $2,500 (for students on semester-long programs) or $4,000 (for students on academic year programs). Summer study is not offered. Deadline is Oct. 7 for Spring, April 8 for Fall.
  
• SIT Houston International Scholarship
  The purpose of the scholarship is to expand the international awareness, skills, and knowledge of Houston-area students through scholarships to SIT Study Abroad’s programs in Africa, Asia, Oceania, Europe, The Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. For more information, or for information regarding SIT's national scholarships, visit the SIT Website. Deadlines are October 1 (Spring) April 1 (summer) May 1 (fall).
  
• American Institute for Foreign Study Scholarships
  AIFS annually awards more than $250,000 in scholarships to summer and semester students who submit application materials demonstrating high academic achievement. Scholarships are available for both summer and semester programs. For more details on each scholarship and the application form click on the links below. Deadlines are April 15 (Fall) and September 15 (Spring).
  AIFS International Scholarships :  AIFS offers up to 50 scholarships of $500 and 40 1,000 to students who demonstrate high academic achievement and write an essay addressing “How study abroad will impact my academic and personal growth.”
  AIFS Diversity Scholarships: 50% of the program fee and round trip air fare are awarded, one per semester. Three runner-up AIFS Diversity Scholarships of $2,000 each are also awarded each semester. Applicants must submit the scholarship application materials in addition to the AIFS study abroad application and the required application fee of $95.
  Study Again with AIFS Scholarships: $1000 scholarship to study abroad on an AIFS semester or academic year catalog program, or a $500 scholarship toward a summer catalog program.
  
• Inter-American Foundation (IAF) Grassroots Development Fellowships for Field Research in Grassroots Development The Inter-American Foundation (IAF) was created in 1969 by the United States Congress to fund the self-help initiatives of the organized poor in Latin America and the Caribbean and the groups that directly support them. Deadline is January 18.
  
• Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program for Biomedical Engineering
  The Whitaker International Fellows and Scholars Program sends emerging leaders in U.S. biomedical engineering (or bioengineering) to undertake a self-designed project that will enhance their own careers within the field. In the first four years of the Whitaker Program, 100 grants have been awarded to Fellows and Scholars to conduct projects in over 20 countries worldwide. Deadline is January 24.

• Center for Irish Studies (UST) Bishop McCarthy Travel Grant: Up to $1,000 for one credit-generating term during summer, fall or spring semesters, or one academic year for Study in Ireland.

• Taiwan Government Scholarship
  For those students interested in studying in Taiwan. Scholarships are provided through the Taiwanese Embassy in Houston. Check website for deadline.
  
• ThinkSwiss Research Group
  ThinkSwiss offers 15 scholarships for a research stay in Switzerland. This scholarship program supports highly motivated and qualified U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to do research at a public Swiss university or research institute for 2 to 3 months (during the summer). The scholarship is open to students of all fields. Deadline is in March.
  
• Laura W. Bush Traveling Fellowship
  The U.S. National Commission for UNESCO will be accepting applications starting this week for the newly restarted Laura W. Bush Traveling Fellowship Program. This Traveling Fellowship was set up in 2008 to help fund American college and university students conduct projects overseas that help to further the mission of UNESCO. These are short-term projects that last four to six weeks in duration. Fellows are required to file reports with National Commission office after they return. • Institute of International Education (IIE) Rocky Mountain Region
  IIE's Rocky Moutain Regional Center will be awarding two scholarships to students who are enrolled in IIENetwork Member Institutions throughout the region. The two awards of $2,500 each are granted by the Adell & Hancock Scholarship Fund, established to provide both U.S. and international students the opportunity to study abroad and in doing so, opening their minds to the world. The Adell & Hancock Fund Scholarships are available to U.S. students in the region who will study abroad as part of a program beginning during the 2011 calendar year, as well as international students that will soon or currently are studying in the region who may choose to apply the award toward their study abroad experience in the U.S. For more information about the scholarships and to download the applications, please visit: www.rockymountainiie.org/scholarships

• Turkish Coalition Scholarship
  This scholarship and amazing opportunity for minority students is provided by the Turkish Coalition of America. It offers scholarships for summer, semester, and year long study abroad in Turkey. Turkey is one of the areas that is of critical interest to students in International Relations. However this scholarship is available to students of all majors. A reminder though, the student must be a minority, USA citizen, and enrolled in a university. For more information please visit:
