UST Makes Champion of Character List for Second Year
Dedicated to the principle that character is a choice, and that being a champion is not just about winning, the University of St. Thomas has been named a Champion of Character Institution by the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) for the second year in a row. UST was one of the 209 institutions that made the list for the 2007-2008 school year.

Religion, Mental Health, and the Search for Meaning
What does it mean to integrate faith and mental health perspectives in our search for meaning and well-being? This free, one-day conference held Saturday, Feb. 7 on the University of St. Thomas campus, “Religion, Mental Health, and the Search for Meaning,” will focus on the interface between religion and mental health. From Protest to Peace: A lecture by Bogside Artist Tom Kelly from Derry, Northern Ireland
At 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 11 in Cullen Hall, Northern Ireland Bogside Artist Tom Kelly will deliver a lecture illustrating the 12 open-air murals that make up what is now known worldwide as “The People’s Gallery.” The murals document the experiences and tell the story of the people living in the community known as “The Bogside” of Derry City, Northern Ireland, through more than 35 years of conflict and social unrest. Free and open to the public; no RSVP or advance tickets.

"John Paul II, Centesimus Annus and the Renewal of Catholic Political Philosophy"
At 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12 Rev. Robert A. Sirico, president of the Acton Institute for the Study of Religion and Liberty, will discuss the idea of the free and virtuous society as enunciated by John Paul II. In such a society the truth revealed by faith and reason will be integrated. Fr. Sirico believes that such a society will foster a renewed appreciation for liberty, especially economic liberty. He will examine the implications of this vision for democracy in the 21st century. This free lecture in Scanlan Room, Jerabeck Center, is funded by the Strake Foundation.

Ecumenical Continuous Reading of the Bible
UST invites people of all faiths to hear and proclaim the Word of God through an around-the-clock reading of the Bible from Genesis to Revelation at the “Word of God: The Bible Unites” event scheduled Friday-Sunday, Feb. 20-22 in the Chapel of St. Basil. The UST community, Catholic and non-Catholic religious and civic leaders will unite to serve as readers. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, Feb. 20 at 9 a.m.


UST Launches Music Preparatory School

Building on the University of St. Thomas Music Department’s commitment to excellence in music education and community outreach, the University will offer private instruction to pre-college music students and non-traditional hobbyists by launching the Music Preparatory School. Private lessons are available to third to 12th grade students. “These classes are affordable and students will receive a high level of instruction,” said director Paul Krystofiak.
