Dr. Poldi Tschirch, Dean of the School of Nursing, came to UST from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston where she held leadership roles in the UTMB School of Nursing, the Telehealth Center and as Director of Nursing Informatics for UTMB Hospitals and Clinics Nursing Department.

Tschirch earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Salve Regina College in Newport, Rhode Island, in 1974, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas School of Nursing in Galveston in 1983 and a Ph.D. from the University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences in 1992.

“Throughout my career in nursing, I have found the most important aspect is the profound impact nurses make on patients,” Tschirch said.  “A nurse’s work truly matters in the lives of the people they serve.  At UST, we help students experience nursing as a challenging profession, a call to service and a healing ministry.  Nursing is a rewarding, intellectually challenging career choice that provides a wide range of opportunities in a variety of specialties and settings.  The nursing field also offers job stability, as the demand for well-educated nurses continues to increase.”
