Ethical Leadership in Action Award
David Weekley is the 2010 recipient of this prestigious award honoring Houston business leaders.
David Weekley, chairman of David Weekley Homes, stands tall among servant leaders in the Houston community.
His highest priority is making sure that the needs of others– employees, customers and citizens of the world–are being served first. For his selfless leadership, moral business acumen and unwavering level of social responsibility, Weekley has been named the 2010 recipient of the Ethical Leadership in Action Award by the University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business Center for Business Ethics.
Though Weekley has built more than 60,000 homes and received nearly 400 awards for home design, his purpose goes beyond providing shelter; he wants to enhance people’s lives. He gives generously through the Weekley Family Foundation. He and his wife, Bonnie, travel to Africa regularly, working with organizations such as Living Water and Hope International. Living Water drills water wells throughout the most impoverished countries of Africa and around the world. Hope International and its affiliated organizations provide microfinancing to create small businesses throughout Africa, India and Latin America. Weekley commits substantial financial resources as well as fully 50 percent of his personal time to working on these charitable projects.
The Ethical Leadership in Action Award honors an individual who has displayed uncommon leadership and social responsibility, who has demonstrated great foresight and who has benefited the city of Houston in a way that lives on in the community. The University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business Center for Business Ethics in conjunction with the Greater Houston Partnership will present the next award in the spring of 2014. The selection process is extensive, involving nominations received from various business and community leaders. See the impressive list of past recipients |
