Corporate Governance Papers
Acknowledgements
In April 1999, the Center for Business Ethics at Houston's University of St. Thomas hosted a conference entitled Corporate Governance: Ethics Across the Board. This volume grew out of that extremely successful conference.
The conference was underwritten by a generous grant from Pfizer Inc. Terence Gallagher, Vice President of Corporate Governance at Pfizer, saw the importance of hosting this conference and backed our efforts from the very beginning. Pfizer's Elyse Locurto and Linda Burgos provided invaluable support at every stage of the planning and execution of this event. Carson Daly, the Director of Policy Communications at Pfizer and Jon Crystal, Senior Director at SpencerStuart, kindly lent a hand in securing the outstanding speakers. Linda Lukehart, Sandy Cackowski, and the University of St. Thomas chapter of Students in Free Enterprise put in many hours attending to last-minute details.
The Center thanks all of the corporate and academic speakers who graciously consented to share their insights into corporate governance. Every talk was superb, reflecting the speakers' mature judgment born of years of experience. Finally, I would be remiss if I did not thank Clifton Lee Van On, Kathryn Hix, and Timothy Goodman, all of whom cheerfully undertook the many tedious tasks associated with editing and publishing these papers.
