Dr. Beena George Offers Current Outsourcing Research, Industry Insight For Students
Outsourcing is a $6 trillion industry. Tapping into that market, Dr. Beena George, Cameron School of Business’ resident expert on outsourcing, continues to be active in her of field of research and provides opportunities for students to gain meaningful, hands-on insight into the global outsourcing industry.
George, assistant professor of management and marketing, presented her research on how different organizations use various outsourcing management software tools at the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) Governance Forum on Sept. 9 in Chicago. IAOP has more than 40,000 members worldwide, and brings together the world’s leading outsourcing customers, providers and advisors.
“This is a great opportunity to work toward the research ideal of marrying rigor with relevance; that is really fulfilling,” she said. “The collaboration with an industry organization like IAOP also ensures that the results of the study reach the people who can use it.”
George also had the unique opportunity to share her expertise with a group of 14 University of St. Thomas MBA students as she led an outsourcing study abroad in Bangalore and Trivandrum, India in July of 2008.
The trip exposed students to the evolving impact of globalization as they visited 15 business organizations, three management schools, and one business communication school. The students were able to visit a broad spectrum of organizations including IBM, CISCO, Wipro and Accenture.
“Globalization provides access to resources and to markets,” George said. “When you talk about globalization, India is a major player today. This trip gave students an insight into how business is conducted in India as they learned about opportunities for collaboration and competition in the global business arena.”
George has taught at UST for six years. She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Kerala, India; an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta, and a doctorate in business administration, management information systems from the University of Houston.
