The Pakistan Project

In collaboration with the Hashoo Foundation, Rice University Owl Microcredit and the University of Houston Microfinance Initiative, MCP supports a development plan in Pakistan, aptly called "Plan Bee". The UST Microcredit Program plans to fianance 100 women over a two year period for the production of honey in the region. To reach this goal, The University of St. Thomas' Microcredit Progam is allocating 20,000 dollars in loans for this program during the next two years, directly benefiting 20 women and their families.
The project will organize the women beekeepers into small peer groups and provide them with training in beekeeping, ensuring quality honey through improved practices and processing facilities, and also facilitate marketing linkages for the sale of honey at higher competitive prices
Hand in Hand:
In May 2009 the Program held the “1st Annual Hand in Hand Fundraiser” to initiate the partnership between the Program and the Hashoo Project. The event hosted Cristal Baylor as key note speaker and raised just under $5,000.
