Irish Student Life
Irish Club - Club na hÉireann
The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies encourages students to join the Irish Club, Club na hÉireann, to celebrate Irish culture, on and off campus.
We have several professors and students from Ireland and Northern Ireland who will join in the activities, including the club advisor, Visiting Professor Eddie Kelleher, who teaches all the Irish language courses.
The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies serves as a gathering place for the Irish Club, students in the Irish Studies courses and students who are interested in Irish-related topics.
If you are a UST student and you would like to join the Club, please contact Prof. Eddie Kelleher at 713-525-3882 or kellehe@stthom.edu.

“I decided to pursue Irish Studies due to a long-held interest in Irish culture and history. UST has one of the few Irish Studies programs and once I decided to pursue a master’s degree, I wanted to take advantage of the opportunity to pursue my interest in an academic environment.
“I decided to join the study abroad program because it gave me the opportunity to visit locations and people a standard tourist visitor would not experience. It also was a scholarly venture, so I feel I received more from it than a standard trip would give me."
Matthew Henry
“Learning the Irish language was about embracing my Irish heritage, but it has become very fun and interesting. I love the language and learning it.
“The Irish Club is a great way to meet and get to know other people who are also interested in anything Irish and have fun learning about everything Irish.”
Mitchell Wagoner:
I think the Irish Club at St. Thomas provides a good opportunity for students to become engaged with contemporary Irish culture, which in turn enriches students’ understanding of Irish history. By participating in activities like film discussions, céilí dances, or attending Irish music concerts, students are able to gain an appreciation for Ireland’s rich artistic heritage.”
