Mary Catherine Sommers

Mary Catherine Sommers is Professor (1997-) & Chair (2003-2008) of Philosophy and Director of the Center for Thomistic Studies (2002-) at the University of St. Thomas (Houston). She has a BA from Whitman College (1971), an MSL from the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies (1976) and an MA (1972) and PhD (1982) from the University of Toronto. Her work includes Walter Burley: Quaestiones super librum Posteriorum (Toronto: Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies, 2000) and articles on Aquinas, Burley and a variety of topics in ethics. She is currently writing a book entitled Thresholds: Re-thinking Tolerance.
Dr. Sommers taught at Niagara University from 1978-1986 and has been at the University of St. Thomas since 1987. She was founding Director of the Honors Program (1988- 1998), initiated Undergraduate Research Day and was involved in launching both Service Learning and the Women, Culture and Society program at UST. |
