Dr. Ueng Finds Teaching Finance Relevant, Rewarding
As plummeting stock reports continue to dominate headlines, Dr. Joe Ueng feels teaching finance is more timely, relevant and rewarding than ever.
Ueng, Cameron School of Business Economics and Finance Department Chair and the Cullen Endowed Chair of Finance, has taught at UST for 12 years. He currently teaches MBA financial management, MBA/MIB international finance and an undergraduate course in capital budgeting.
“A lot of people have no clue what is going on in the economy, and it’s important for our students to understand the financial concepts and applications which affect us all,” Ueng said. “It’s very rewarding to start with someone with no knowledge of finance, and finish the course with students who are well-versed in the interest rates, the stock market, buying, selling and being financially responsible.”
Ueng, a native of Taiwan, grew up in a family of educators. He earned an MBA in finance from Grand Valley State University and a doctorate in finance from St. Louis University. Ueng worked for several years in the private sector and served as a consultant to private corporations before he joined the University of St. Thomas. He is a chartered financial analyst (CFA) and a licensed international financial analyst (LIFA). His research interests include corporate governance, international investment and mergers and acquisitions. |
