Dean's Letter
Dear Alumni and Friends of the Cameron School of Business,
I hope that each of you had a wonderful and productive summer. As we all settle into the fall semester and prepare for the year ahead, we at the Cameron School look back at the spring 2009 semester and the many things our faculty, staff and students accomplished.
In May, the Cameron School graduated more than 100 undergraduate and graduate students with BBA’s, MBA’s and MSA’s. With the help and tireless dedication of our faculty, these students worked extremely hard to complete the requirements of their degree programs, many of them doing so while raising families and working full time. We congratulate each and every one of them! We are so proud of all of our graduates and wish them the best in their future endeavors and remind them they always have a home at the Cameron School of Business.
A very special congratulations goes out to our very own Professor Ramon Fernandez. Professor Fernandez, an assistant professor in the accounting department and a CSB alum, was honored on October 16, 2009 by President Barack Obama and Former President H.W. Bush as a Point of Light for organizing Cameron School accounting students to offer free income tax preparation to low-income Houston residents as a service learning project. Professor Fernandez is a shining example of our faculty’s dedication to their students and their community.
Also in May, the Cameron School of Business organized the First Annual Honors Induction Ceremony. Held at the Houston Club, the event recognized CSB’s best and brightest students. Many students were inducted into the national business honor society, Delta Mu Delta and others were recognized as the top student in their major. You can read more about this and other events in this issue of our newsletter.
In this issue of Cameron Connections you will read about two distinguished alumni who have made their mark in very different industries. You will also read about one of our newest professors and his dedication to our students. Lastly, you will see all of the wonderful events that we have hosted for our students and alumni. These events are a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with the Cameron School while making valuable connections.
I hope after reading this issue of Cameron Connections, you will be inspired to reconnect with us by attending a future event, mentoring a student, reaching out to a former professor or even participating in our upcoming alumni week. Whatever way you choose to reconnect with the Cameron School, we welcome your participation and support. We look forward to seeing you soon.
Thank you,
Bahman Mirshab, PhD
