Robert Frost's poetry touches lives around the world, especially University of St. Thomas alumnus and scholarship donor Vincent D'Amico '52. D'Amico, forever changed by meeting Frost, awarded the Robert Frost Endowed Scholarship in Secondary Education to senior Matthew Panozzo for his essay on Frost's poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay."

University of St. Thomas junior education student Christina Vargas has a unique perspective on her bilingual-education teacher training. From kindergarten to her sophomore year of high school, Vargas took classes in Spanish and English at the Helms Community Learning Center, a dual-language school that had a unique partnership with UST.

The Dual Language Immersion Program at Helms Community Learning Center was initiated as a partnership between University of St. Thomas and the Houston Independent School District in order to develop a model school for dual language in the Houston area. Started in 1996, the Helms Community Learning Center is one of the oldest and most successful dual language programs in the Houston area.

Education students from Houston-based University of St. Thomas recently touched ground back in Texas after a 13-day trip to the United Kingdom, to gain first hand experience of the country’s education systems for a course exploring curriculum issues in England. As part of their itinerary, the students visited ACS Cobham International School, one of three London-area independent schools that educates the children of many Houston-area executives transferred overseas on business.
