First Nursing Class Receives Scholarships
 Every member of the first class of the University of St. Thomas School of Nursing received a scholarship, thanks to the generosity of many donors. Nearly $200,000 was awarded to 32 nursing students, with most awards at $5,000 or more. The scholarship recipients will begin their nursing studies on May 29, 2012, a date that marks the official reopening of the UST School of Nursing.

 Dr. Poldi Tschirch, RN, BC, UST’s director of Nursing Program Development, received the 2011 President’s Award from the Texas Nurses Association, District 9 on Nov. 10. The TNA District 9 Board of Directors annually recognizes a Houston area individual who has provided exemplary support to nurses in our community with the award. |

Scholarships Enable HCC Students to Study Nursing at UST
 A $260,000 gift from Harriet and Joe Foster will provide full-tuition scholarships for five HCC students who transfer to complete their undergraduate degree in nursing within two years. |

Baxter Trust Gives $75,000 for Nursing Preceptor Program
 The Baxter Trust has awarded a $75,000 grant for the planned University of St. Thomas School of Nursing to train nursing preceptors who will support nursing students as they engage in clinical learning inpatient care settings. |

 Nursing at the University of St. Thomas grows from deep roots that continue to nourish future generations of nurses. The Associated Nursing Alumni (ANA), graduates of Dominican College, St. Joseph’s and the University of St. Thomas, have remained closely tied to UST and have celebrated a legacy of dedicated nurses who vigorously supported the resurgent nursing program. |
