ABOUT UST
EDUCATING LEADERS OF FAITH & CHARACTER
A College Education is More than Earning a Degree
The University of St. Thomas - Educating Leaders of Faith and CharacterThe University of St. Thomas is dedicated to becoming a great Catholic university within the next 25 years. Blessed with the Catholic, Basilian tradition, we believe that a college education should be more that the earning of a degree but rather the education of each student so they will understand their role in the world. It should be more than the accumulation of technical knowledge; it must be the wisdom to make the right decisions in their lives. Our goal to “educate leaders of faith and character” touches each undergraduate and graduate student. Our strong core curriculum, our dedicated faculty and our innovative co-curricular programs are designed to complement each other to make “educating leaders of faith and character” a reality.

Programs like C.E.L.T, an acronym for Creating and Educating Leaders of Tomorrow, which begins in November, exemplifies this motto. This four-year comprehensive leadership curriculum consists of five phases that will guide students through their careers at UST. Each phase gives students the opportunity to grow both individually and professionally. Sample topics include team building, successful event planning and officer transition. The program will also include activities such as weekend retreats, leadership projects, and opportunities that will enhance and assist students in their leadership development and co-curricular experience.

We are confident that by the time our students graduate, they will possess a self-awareness of their own strengths and limitations. They will understand that a true education is the dialogue between faith and reason so they can continue to learn throughout their lives. And they will be imbued with a spiritual faith and strength of character so they can make the right decisions in life.

Our students are our credentials. We will reach our goal of becoming a great Catholic university because of their achievements and contributions to our society.

A leader has to Be a person of faith and character who possesses self confidence based on a solid belief in God and a strength anchored in strong personal values. Leaders must Know their strengths, limitations and the world around them, and be capable of adapting and improving daily. And last, but certainly not least, a leader has to Do the right thing, making the decision to choose the “harder right and not the easier wrong.” Do often requires both physical and moral courage.
