What and Who are we?
The International Council of Universities of St Thomas Aquinas (ICUSTA) is an international association of Catholic institutions of higher learning that faithfully adhere to the ideals and teachings of St. Thomas Aquinas.  ICUSTA's main purpose is to encourage cooperation and collaboration, and international understanding among its members.  ICUSTA fosters student and faculty exchanges through bilateral agreements and promotes other collaborative initiatives such as:  on-line course offerings related to globalization,  faculty lecture exchange opportunities, and faculty collaborative research opportunities.

ICUSTA was founded in 1993 by the University of St. Thomas in Santiago, Chile, by Dr. Gerardo Rocha Vera, the President of the UST Corporation in Chile, a small group of mostly South American institutions attended the first meeting.   The group decided to expand and hold a biennial meeting, beginning in 1995 with the University of St. Thomas, in Houston, Texas accepting the challenge of hosting ICUSTA.  Since that time, the organization has expanded to its current membership of  twenty-five institutions.   General Assembly of ICUSTA members and friends have been held biennially at:  UST Manila, Philippines in 1997;  STU Fredericton, Canada in 1999;  UST Rome, Italy in 2001;  at FASTA in Mar del Plata, Argentina in 2003;  at Abat Oliba University in Barcelona, Spain in 2005; at Australian Catholic University in Melbourne, Australia in 2007; at Mary Immaculate College in Limerick, Ireland, in 2009; and at UST Manila, Phillipines in 2011.

ICUSTA will return to Europe in 2013 at Institute of Catholic Superior Studies (ICES) in France.  In 2015 ICUSTA will hold its biennial meeting for the first time in Africa, when the University of St Thomas, Mabuto, Mozambique will be host for the 11th ICUSTA Biennial General Assembly.
