MICRO-CREDIT PROGRAM
Micro-Credit Program
The Center for International Studies Micro-Credit Program is dedicated toassisting micro-entrepreneurs living below the poverty threshold to start income generating businesses. The program seeks to promote freedom, fairness and democracy around the world by endorsing basic principles of micro-entrepreneurship, self-employment, property rights, and wealth accumulation, while integrating the Catholic values of the University of St. Thomas.

The Micro-Credit Program is a student-operated non-profit organization that sets in motion the concept of social change by a humble call to action directed to other fellow students, University peers, and the Houston community. The University foresees a future for the Program that will transcend us all and will become a legacy for future UST generations.

For additional information, view the Micro-Credit Program Brochure

The Educational Experience
The Program is a mechanism to reflect in a concrete and direct manner UST’s Mission and Objectives as a Catholic institution for higher education. This is accomplished by:
  • Providing UST students with a tangible opportunity to impact the world in a positive and fulfilling way.
  • Offering UST students an opportunity to close the gap between theory and practice.
  • Helping UST students develop rational and concrete mechanisms for decision making and problem solving.
  • Helping the world’s working poor take steps towards economic independence.
  • Promoting freedom, fairness and democracy around the world by endorsing basic principles of micro-entrepreneurship, self-employment, property rights, and wealth accumulation.
