Goalkeeper Lukas Simon Balances Academic Goals

When German native Lukas Simon joined the Celts soccer team, he saw potential and an opportunity to have a profound impact on a program that was entering its beginning stages. And since 2007, he has seen that vision become a reality. While this goalkeeper co-captain is committed to the team, he keeps his own academic goals a top priority as a bioinformatics major.

 
Archbishop Miller to Give Aquinas Lecture
Archbishop J. Michael Miller, CSB, archbishop of Vancouver and UST president emeritus, will give the Aquinas Lecture entitled, "The Church's 'Common Doctor': Thomas Aquinas and the Contemporary Catholic University.” The event is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 28, 2010, in Jones Hall and is hosted by the Center for Thomistic Studies.
 
Cameron School Hosts Graduate Open House

UST Celebrates Week of Prayer for Christian Unity
Millions of Christians across the globe will join hands and voices in prayer for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity to be held Monday to Monday, Jan. 18-25, 2010. Each night of the week will be hosted by a different Christian church or community.
 
S-STEM Grant Provides Math, Science Scholarships
The National Science Foundation has awarded the University of St. Thomas a $575,000 grant to provide scholarships to undergraduate students obtaining degrees in science, pre-engineering and math over the next five years.

From Janitor to Attorney: Mintz Lives American Dream

Silvia Mintz came to America with little more than a dream and the desire to earn a living and support her family. She worked minimum-wage jobs as a janitor and nanny just to make ends meet. Twelve years later, Mintz has earned a bachelor’s degree from UST, graduated from law school, passed the bar exam and co-founded her own law firm in Houston.
