Five Students Merit Fr. Vincent J. Guinan Scholars

The University of St. Thomas has awarded five incoming freshmen with the Father Vincent J. Guinan Scholarship, which covers full tuition for four years. To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must be Catholic and meet specific academic requirements.

 
UST Graduate Lands Internship at Iron Chef’s Restaurant
University of St. Thomas graduate Jamee Simmons has landed the dream job for almost any aspiring chef – working in the Manhattan kitchen of Morimoto, the restaurant of the internationally renowned Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto. Simmons graduated from UST in 2007 with a liberal arts degree concentrating in art history and theater.
 
Join the Alumni Association for a Night at the Astros

UST alumni, faculty, staff and families are invited to attend Alumni Night at the Astros and get discount tickets to the Houston Astros vs. Pittsburgh Pirates on Friday, Aug. 13. There will be a free pre-game hot dog reception for alumni at the FiveSeven Patio inside the park for two hours prior to the game.

 
Religion, Mental Health and the Search for Meaning
Does a division exist between the perspectives of religion and psychology? Why are so few mental health professionals trained to integrate religion and spirituality into their work with clients? These questions will be explored at Religion, Mental Health and the Search for Meaning, a free conference held on August 28 in Jones Hall.
 
Help Raise Scholarship Money with Second Collection

In an effort to support Catholic education, parishes in the Galveston-Houston Archdiocese will make a second round with the collection plate. Volunteers are needed to visit area parishes to promote the Second Collection for Catholic education, which takes place on September 11 - 12. The money collected will be shared between the University of St. Thomas Fr. Monaghan Scholarship Fund and the Catholic University of America.

 
UST Hosts Scholarship Tee-Up Golf Tournament

The UST Scholarship Tee-Up Golf Tournament will be held on Wednesday, September 22, 2010, at Kingwood Country Club. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. with a 1 p.m. shotgun start. The Scholarship Tee-Up Golf Tournament benefits the Fr. Francis E. Monaghan Scholarship Fund.

MLA Graduate Finds Life-School-Work Balance

Ashley Easterwood has achieved more major life milestones in the last two and half years than many people experience over the span of a decade. Easterwood works full time, had a baby, is expecting a second child all while pursuing a Master in Liberal Arts at UST. It’s all about finding a work-school-life balance, Easterwood says.
