Former Senator Examines Role of Faith in Public Life

The Honorable Rick Santorum, former U.S. Senator from Pennsylvania, will explore, “The Role of Faith in Public Life: Fifty Years after John F. Kennedy’s Speech to the Greater Houston Ministerial Association.” The event, sponsored by the John Paul II Forum for the Church in the Modern World, will be held on campus at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 9 in Jones Hall.

 
UST Hosts An Evening of Irish Traditional Tales
Houston Storyteller Guild Members Susan Gallagher, Sally Bates Goodroe and Brian Herod will recite Irish and Celtic folktales and legends when the University of St. Thomas Center for Irish Studies Cultural Outreach Forum hosts Céilí House: An Evening of Traditional Tales from Ireland. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Cullen Hall.
 
Rabbi Jacob Neusner Gives Herzstein Lecture in Judaism

One of the preeminent scholars of Judaism, Rabbi Jacob Neusner, will deliver the annual Herzstein Lecture in Judaism at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 20, on the University of St. Thomas campus in Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum. His lecture is titled, “Fifty Years of Jewish Learning: What Has Changed and What Difference Does it Make?”

 
Miller Lecture Explores Popes’ Thoughts on Culture
The University of St. Thomas Annual Archbishop J. Michael Miller Lecture will present, “Culture in the Thought of John Paul II and Benedict XVI,” a lecture by Tracey Rowland, dean of the John Paul II Institute for Marriage and Family Studies in Melbourne, Australia. The event will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29 in Jones Hall, 3910 Yoakum.
 
Festa Italiana Returns to UST Campus Oct. 15-17
Houstonians can take a three-day vacation to Italy without stepping foot on an airplane. The sights, sounds and mouth-watering aromas of Italy will once again beckon thousands to the University of St. Thomas campus. The 32nd Annual Festa Italiana will be held for three days from Friday to Sunday, October 15 to l7.
 
Princeton Review Names UST Among “Best in West”

The University of St. Thomas was named as one of the best colleges and universities in the West by The Princeton Review. The education services company selected the school as one of 120 institutions it recommends to college applicants in its "Best in the West" section on its Web site feature, 2011 Best Colleges: Region by Region.

David Weekley to Discuss Ethics, Servant Leadership
 

In This Issue:

The University of St. Thomas Cameron School of Business Center for Business Ethics and The Greater Houston Partnership will present a special engagement, “In Conversation with David Weekley,” at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 15 in Jones Hall. Weekley is the 2010 recipient of the Ethical Leadership in Action Award. During the event, Weekley will discuss the practice of ethics and servant leadership. Bruce Wilkinson, retired Chairman of CEO of McDermott International Inc., will serve as moderator.
