Ecologist Explores Gulf Oil Spill
As the Gulf Coast makes every effort to recover from the oil spill, the University of St. Thomas will host ecologist Vic Hummert to speak about, “Lessons from the Gulf Oil Spill,” at 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 7. The event is presented by UST’s Rev. William J. Social Justice Institute and Maryknoll Houston First Friday Forum.
 
Notre Dame Folk Choir Performs at UST
The University of St. Thomas Catholic Outreach will host a special concert of sacred music by the University of Notre Dame Folk Choir Winter Touring Ensemble at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 11, in the Chapel of St. Basil. Their arrangements of sacred music include four-part choral harmony, flute and strings, ethnic percussion instruments, guitar and organ.
 
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Millions of Christians across the globe will join their hands and voices in prayer for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, to be held Tuesday to Tuesday, Jan. 18-25, 2011. The Houston services are organized by the University of St. Thomas Center for Faith and Culture.

 
Dr. Peter Kreeft Gives Aquinas Lecture

Dr. Peter Kreeft, known as one of the premier apologists in America today, will present the 2011 University of St. Thomas Aquinas Lecture, titled “Thomas Aquinas on Sexuality.” The lecture, hosted by UST’s Center for Thomistic Studies, will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 27.

 
UN Film Festival Comes to UST Campus

The University of St. Thomas Center for International Studies and the United Nations Association-Houston will host the United Nations Association Film Festival (UNAFF) from Thursday – Sunday, Jan, 27-30. The films address topics ranging from human rights, environmental themes, population, migration, women’s issues, refugees, homelessness, racism, health, universal education, war and peace.

Accounting Students Land Competitive Big Four Jobs

Adding to the growing pool of UST graduates working at Big 4 public accounting firms, UST BBA/MBA students Michael Pair and Sabrina Akhter have secured a full-time position at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, and Christian Brillantes and Elizabeth Houche have been hired at Ernst & Young LLP. At UST, the students say they gained the knowledge, skills, connections and experience necessary to land positions at the world’s top accounting firms.
