Veteran Finds Home at UST

As Veteran’s Day approaches, Marcus Walden, a 27-year-old veteran of the U.S. Navy, shares his experience as a freshman. Walden, a believer in educating the whole person and teaching children about the origin of foods, recognizes UST for helping him pursue the next chapter in his life.

Arts Society Tea Supports Scholarships

The UST Performing Arts Society will kick off its membership year with the Membership Tea from 2-4 p.m. on Nov. 6 at a private River Oaks residence. At the tea, members will have an opportunity to renew their membership, mingle and listen to talented UST singers perform. All proceeds benefit scholarships for music and drama students at St. Thomas. RSVP is required.

Gala Fundraises, Celebrates Irish Studies

The William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies will hold the Irish Gala at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 at the Houstonian Hotel. The gala, with a delicious dinner, lively entertainment and auctions, raises funds for the Center’s academic programs and study abroad scholarships to Ireland.

Athletics Merits Accolades, Introduces Upcoming Seasons

UST volleyball, soccer, golf and basketball are on the rise and becoming a threat in the Red River Athletic Conference. Learn more about each program and how they are setting the tone for UST Athletics.

• Volleyball Ranked Third in RRAC
  The UST volleyball team is 7-2 in RRAC play. Players were awarded Libero of the Week and Setter of the Week. Also, Stephanie Biediger was named RRAC Hitter of the Week and has amassed a career-high 1,000 kills.
• Soccer Beats SAGU on Senior Night
  The final home game for the men’s soccer team, on Oct. 6, resulted in a win on Senior Night for seniors Gonzalo Nemi and Luis Bustos.
• Basketball Set to Start Season
  The men’s team will begin its season with new assistant coach Thomas Henderson. Also, many of the women’s games will be shown on Premier Sports Network.
• UST Golf Hosts First-Ever Invitational
  UST hosted its first-ever home golf tournament on Oct. 8-9 at Sterling Country Club. Sophomore Zach Cabra took co-medalist honors.

UST Alumni Foster College Prep at Cristo Rey Jesuit

St. Thomas alumni are educating leaders of faith and character in Catholic schools across the Houston. Eight UST graduates work at Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory School of Houston as teachers and administrators, leading high school students in a variety of areas and guiding them to pursue higher education.
