Join UST to Deck the Mall

Play in the "snow," enjoy crafts, snacks, a petting zoo, camel rides and hayrides at the University of St. Thomas Deck the Mall at 4-8 p.m. on Dec. 4 on the Academic Mall. University President Dr. Robert Ivany will light the Christmas tree and a Live Nativity will proclaim Noel at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

University Singers Perform Songs of Christmas

Listen to the angelic voices of the University Singers Christmas performance at 8 p.m. on Dec. 4 in the Chapel of St. Basil. The Singers will showcase sacred choral works for Advent and Christmas in the serene setting of the Chapel under the direction of Dr. Brady Knapp with Courtney Daniell-Knapp as guest conductor.

Basketball, AASU Food Drive Provides 172 Meals

UST basketball programs and the African American Student Union completed its first Thanksgiving Food Drive on Nov. 21. The groups teamed up to provide approximately 172 meals to the Houston Food Bank. Canned goods and other donations were provided by UST students, faculty, staff and game attendees.

Irish Gala Raises $330K for Flynn Center

The St. Thomas William J. Flynn Center for Irish Studies celebrated Houston Irish and Irish American communities at its annual Irish Gala held Nov. 9 at The Houstonian Hotel. About 430 people attended the event, which raised scholarship funds for UST students to study abroad in Ireland and Northern Ireland. The Gala raised nearly $330,000 in total proceeds for the academic program, including more than $62,000 specifically for scholarships.

UST Awarded $1.25M Grant for Special Ed

The Preparation of Special Education Leaders Program is a partnership between UST and the Houston Independent School District. Over the five-year grant period, UST will confront the shortage of special education leaders by developing a program of study that will award 80 Master of Education degrees with emphasis on special education leadership. UST and HISD are working together to recruit candidates.

Houston Symphony Concert Benefits UST

To bring the University closer to realizing its vision for enhancing the visual and performing arts for the campus and the Houston community, St. Thomas will partner with the world-renowned Houston Symphony to perform the New Vision, New Stars Benefit Concert at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 22 at Jones Hall in the Houston Theater District. Guest conductor, Andrey Boreyko, will conduct Stravinsky’s Suite from “The Firebird,” Ravel’s “Pavane” and Mussorgsky/Ravel’s “Pictures at an Exhibition.” Tickets start at $35.
